Soul Eater chapter 112 : The Dark Side of the Moon IX [read here]

Second to last chapter already?

I was about to go on about how cheesy and confusing this last chapter was, but if you think about the rest of the series, there has never been a stable logic to anything.

So Maka’s goal was one: destroy Kishin, and two: save Crona.

Poor Crona. Her speech to Maka sure hit an emotional chord in me. Especially this scene:

SE 112

Dangit. Why can’t Sasuke be like this? He too, needs to understand the weight of his sins and realize he can’t just jump in and be the hero!

And from what I understand, Kishin absorbed the Book of Eibon for plot convenience. Crona also being able to use the Brew stored in the Book of Eigon also due to plot convenience. Ehh…?

And Kishin exploded and consumed the moon. I’m sad. I always loved the moon. I even have a key chain of the Soul Eater moon.

Now the people currently standing on the moon:

SE 112 0

Group hug for the end. D’aaawwwww. T_TSE 112 1

T_T

What a sport… Good sacrifices were made in this battle.

Next chapter is the end! I’ve enjoyed this series very much mostly due to their constant breaking of logic and reality. I loved the anime of this series much more due to the animation, but I feel like the manga is gives such high standards that the anime would never be able to stay at that level of quality of animation forever.

See you next chapter for the end!

Soul Eater chapter 111 : Dark Side of the Moon VIII [read here]

I don’t usually review monthlies. It’s hard to have the plot fresh in mind after each release they’re a whole month apart. I like to review Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler more since I’m much more drawn to their story.

Soul Eater on the other hand, is just… how should I describe it? It’s harder to think about and explain Soul Eater since their logic breaks the barriers of pretty much everything. I love reading the story, but in a suspension of disbelief. It makes it more enjoyable. How else do you describe their madness warps and stuff?

Last time I talked about this series (chapter 108), Kishin had an upper hand, Kid had second thoughts, and there are a ton of useful people watching from the sidelines.

Three chapters later, Kishin still has the upper hand and a lot of people standing from the sidelines are finally putting their hand in battle. I hate it when Spirit stands on the side. He’s so OP in this story but yet he does nothing unless Shinigami or Stein is next to him. But before we go into this more, let’s talk about what happened in between 108 and 111.

Chapter 109. High action, protagonists get their asses kicked.

Chapter 110. Shinigami… disintegrates. It shows that there can’t be 2 gods in the world. Death the Kid had succeeded his father and is no longer needed. I particularly love this scene. Shinigami has always been watching you, Kid!

SE 110

And the crack in his mask is like a little tear… So beautiful…

But even with Kid becoming full powered, Kishin still has the upper hand up to chapter 111.

I thought Kid here was going to be the main stager this time around, but it looks like main character Maka will be bringing this home once again like in the end of the Anime. Speaking of which, here is where the manga and anime finale start to look similar.

SE 111 2

Yeesh. They had to remind me about the anime finale here? The concept is the same but luckily, the approach is completely different.

Manga: Everybody, I mean everybody is joined in this Kishin battle.
Azusa can shoot Kishin from the surface of the Earth; Eruka calculates all points; Kilik assists Azusa; Free defends Earth; Stein throws Marie at Kishin; Spirit, Sidd, Clay, and Akane defend Marie; Black Star, Tsubaki, Kid, Liz, and Patty assist Maka; Soul controls the black blood for Maka and gives significant moral support; and Gopher makes Kishin….

SE 111 1Wait, what the f***?

Uhh… Moving on.

Anime: Kid, Liz, Patty, Tsubaki, Black Star, and Soul Eater are laying on the ground too weak to get up but strong enough to give her moral support.

SE 51 0mmhrrmfrmhhmm

Meanwhile, all other significant characters are standing outside the barrier, powerless.

SE 51 1I wonder what’s going on in there…

And then Maka takes all her courage and she…!

SE 51 2You… you go do that.

Things are looking up for the end of this series. But don’t get me wrong, I love the anime. The last episode was just horrible. I still go back and rewatch the series every now and then excluding the last episode.

At least Kishin goes down like a badass this time around.

SE 111 3Way better than courage punching in the face. When Maka said everybody is behind her in this fight, THEY REALLY FREAKING ARE. Not face down on the ground.

To wrap up this review, I’d like to talk about some characters.SE 111 4

Kid seems to only talk to Liz. Almost like Patty is just sitting quietly this whole time… Why would the author do that?

Kishin’s character design is very fascinating. When his face is covered, he is loud and insane. His mouth is also wide open and his appearance is very intimidating. When the mask is uncovered, he seems to have some proper reasoning behind his words. It’s just like a switch between crazy and sane. He surely is more respectable in the manga than the anime. I still have to applaud the level of animation that was done on Kishin’s revival in episode 24. Gives me chills every time. He’s like Slenderman. Naked.

Wrapping up of this series is doing quite nicely. I wonder how Kid’s life will be like from now on. I guess we shall see.

#253 Exorcist Love Triangle

Posted in Blue Exocist, Manga, Soul Eater with tags , , , , , on April 27, 2013 by Lee T

I’ve been in some major depression lately so I’ll make this review quick.

Ao no Exorcist/
Blue Exorcist chapter 46 : Try and Error [read here]

Ever since this series started, there’s been a love triangle buzzing in the background with Rin, Yukio, and Sheimi. It did its duty being the main character’s unreachable love interest throughout the story, but it never really advanced. Rin continued to be extremely nice to Sheimi, Sheimi continued talking about Yukio, and Yukio never returned any feelings towards Sheimi. Very generic, probably cliché. Things are starting change now.

School festival is coming, the boys are scampering to find dates to go with to the dance. Well in the story’s point of view, it’s just Rin and Shima. This has been going on for the past 2-3 chapters and it is an odd path for this once high-action story.

Rin is completely confident that Sheimi would say yes, most likely based on his romantic fantasy. The reader knows that Sheimi will go ask Yukio instead. The funny thing is that Rin told her to let him talk first and she goes right ahead and says she was going to ask Yukio. She continues to remain oblivious to Rin’s feelings.

BE 46 1

Interesting that the focus veers off a couple panels with both of them worried about Yukio’s stress.

Mind blowing that Yukio actually expected Rin to succeed at asking Sheimi out. At the same time, maybe Yukio does acknowledge that Sheimi likes him. Like with Gray and Juvia of Fairy Tail? But Gray doesn’t like to call attention to it. Yukio just ignores it and gives her one of those dishonest smiles he has all the time.

He definitely acknowledges Rin’s crush on Sheimi. I believe he teased Rin 2 chapters back about it?

All this love drama… Hmm… It’s kinda weird isn’t it? Twins and a girl… like a certain Korean drama I know. I also found out that the mangaka is female as well. I bet she wanted the drama in the story eventually.

Now that I think about it, it’s not a triangle at all. It’s a straight line. Rin likes Sheimi, Sheimi likes Yukio, Yukio …? Well Yukio doesn’t look like he even likes his brother. He’s in love with his work or something. That guy has issues.

Next month’s chapter is going to be all up in this drama. Plus Illuminati stuff. I’m really worried what is going to happen to Rin especially when he said, “In the end she likes Yukio, I guess…” and makes a face like he’s trying not to cry. Did he really admit defeat?
We also have to look forward to Rin’s miso soup booth at the festival. Even though he isn’t going to the couple’s party, he is still participating in the festival.

I like how the story just rolled into this love arc without breaking the story itself. It does feel out of place, but the author is keeping some level of respectable seriousness. Most shounen I have read never has taken a break from all the slaughtering to develop a serious love story. It’s usually set in the beginning and then struggled after for the rest of the series (KHR) or stuck into retarded places for plot convenience (Naruto). Other than that, it’s kind of a joke.

I can’t wait ’till this next chapter to see how Rin deals with everything.

I can’t wait until Naruto’s next chapter to finally see how the former Hokages will affect the battlefield. Also, has anybody seen the current 5 kages? They disappeared around late last year.

I can’t wait until Bleach’s story to finally pick itself  up. This flashback is dragging on small details for far too long.

I can’t wait for Fairy Tail to get off its break so I can see if Rogue faces his alter-ego self from the future.

I can’t wait until Soul Eater’s next chapter to see if Kid actually resolves his confusion with his line between order and madness. Also, I want to know how Shinigami dies.

I can’t wait until Kuroshitsuji’s next chapter to see if Ciel ever meets the headmaster or if the headmaster will constantly run away.

I can’t wait until Hetalia’s next season. I feel so empty without it.

I can’t wait until Legend of Korra Book 2 comes out to see Korra abuse the Avatar state! Also to see how long teen love really lasts!

I can’t wait until AKB0048’s next season because it’s the only anime I actually enjoy watching and to see if they’ll actually show Acchan the 14’s whole succession ceremony!!

Wow. 9 different series spoiled. That’s a record. Sorry for all this.
I’m all pent up on emotions that I’ve been trying to keep in. Releasing my thoughts in anime/manga reviews has been an outlet for me these past couple years since I am unable to express them publicly. I’m even scared to express on anonymous forums. Here, they can be completely stated without interruption.
It no longer concerns me how many people view my blog. All I care about is that this haven exists where I can write all my opinions about the things I love and I can read all the comments from you wonderful people. I got received first negative comment recently and I was really happy. I am not sure why, but I was overjoyed that a hater exists on my blog. Thank you sir, for your honest opinion.
In my quest for mental stability, I want to know what others think. Let me know that you exist and not just a computer that spams ad links to generate fake page views.

#248 Children of Shinigami

Soul Eater chapter 108 : The Dark Side of the Moon V [read here]

There are a multitude of grammar errors in this scanlation, but bear with me.

Le gasp! Asura Kishin is Death the Kid’s older brother?

Well now that you put it that way, I can see some resemblance.

SE 108Anime rules says that two characters with the same hair  are familialy related.

It’s the hair. Definitely the hair. The eye color is off though with Asura having red eyes and Kid having yellow.

But then again, with Asura explaining more, it sounds like everybody is a child of Shinigami. Everybody was created by Shinigami…

Oh great. Kid is going to have a identity crisis for the rest of this battle.

And for some reason, Black Star has once again shown he can distort the laws of reality spitting up an explosion shot into his mouth. I don’t even know what to say anymore other than, “IT’S BLACK STAR! WHAT’S THERE TO EXPLAIN!” I mean, he did grab a laser beam earlier in this arc. He’s also floating right next to Maka (who has wings) and Kid (who has a thrusters). Probably being next to the moon means their in outer space or something. Other than that, I can’t explain anything!

And once again Black Star has displayed his ability to know what his friends are thinking even when they don’t say anything. That’s our Black Star ♥.

SE 108 1Oh, and here comes Sid, Akane, and Clay. And Nygus(?). I don’t remember her appearing int his arc but I’ll assume she’s here because she is Sid’s partner.
I hope they aren’t bystanders. I really hate bystanders. It’ll be worse if all 5 of these guys just stay there and commentate the battle. But Spirit has an excuse. He doesn’t have a meister!

Interesting chapter. Too much Black Star dialog though. We’ll be seeing our heroes fighting madness with madness next chapter.

#231 Anime’s Kishin Battle Avenged

Posted in Manga, Soul Eater on February 11, 2013 by Lee T

Soul Eater chapter 107 : The Dark Side of the Moon IV [read here]

Remember the final Kishin battle in the anime? Yeah… that sucked. I finally realized why now.

SE 107

Hallucinations.
It had none! The first Kishin battle blew our mind to bits when everybody kept visualizing their deaths! This manga fight has done its justice.

So here’s how it’s going down:

Spirit Albarn has taken the back-burner on this fight. It is now up to our main characters (Maka, Soul, BlackStar, Tsubaki, Kid, Liz, and Patty) to save Crona? Well more like save the world. Maka is still wound up to save Crona, though.

Kid on the other hand is set on taking the burden of restoring peace to the world alone.

BlackStar still likes to take things head-on.

Soul is still fighting his inner demon.

Excalibur watches insightfully from afar.

Analyses: I have quite a few.

Maka. Maka, Maka, Maka. She is so dedicated to save Crona. Why? It might be pity, maybe friendship. She is afraid to lose any of her friends and Crona is the one that keeps leaving her! Maka’s first real antagonist has become her only goal. Not you’re stereotypical shounen plot, but it sure is something.

Spirit (DeathScythe) Albarn finally stepping up to the parental plate? Probably because he is the only parental figure in this battle, he really knows how to run things. Most important thing he knows is his… limits. He really believes the team of 7 kids can defeat the evil that is set to destroy their world? Well, I guess I’ve never acknowledged it, but Spirit is extremely humble. He being Grim Reaper’s weapon, partnered with the strongest meister (I’m takling about Stein), and father of a genius of a daughter, he never does brag at all. I tip my hat to you, Spirit.

Looks like WhiteStar met the Kishin a while ago. Or some other Star Clan ancestor?

BlackStar’s attack, Masamune Mugen reminds me of Masamune Date, who welds 6 swords in a particular game. There are also 6 swords in BlackStar’s attack.

Kid. You epically pose with your team in 2 pages and still dash in by yourself? What is wrong with you? All this responsibility has gone to your head.

Shinigami will die when Death the Kid succeeds him. That’s the big spoiler of the day! Does Kid know?SE 107 1

Enjoy this long post! Can you tell that I like Soul Eater?
Hahaha, it’s because Soul Eater is my all-time favorite anime. I don’t really like it as much as a manga. I really enjoyed the anime’s intricacy’s of battle and the hilariously expressive characters. Manga is only black and white and still pictures. :(

#220 Silver Spoon is getting depressing…

Posted in Gin No Saji, Kuroshitsuji, Manga, Soul Eater on October 18, 2012 by Lee T

Before I get into Silver Spoon/Gin no Saji, I need to talk about raws! I haven’t posted raws in a while since the mangas I watch usually release before my patience runs out. This time is different.

Soul Eater chapter 103 : Battle of the Moon 2 (Part 3) [click here]

This was supposed to come out on the 13th, but it’s the 18th and there’s no translation in sight! I need my Soul Eater!

Let’s list what we see.

  • Excalibur. Why is he here again? Being useless.
  • Kishin comes closer meter by meter and releases his madness wave.
  • Maka’s hands are disproportionately smaller than her face.
  • Soul saves the the day by using his ability to disperse Maka’s anti-madness wavelength.
  • Noah’s ass-cannon.

  • ToC (Table of Contents in the Book of Eibon) pretty much is the only one fighting since he secretly controls Noah… He turned Noah into a freaking giant ant.
  • And Crona is here.

So what I can guess from here is that whoever can take down/control Kishin will be the next antagonist of this Series. I have a strong feeling that Shibusen/DWMA will not be the victor in this battle. This story is known for the bad guys to win. Medusa is still winning and she’s dead! Even Justin died a winner.

Actually, I don’t think Medusa’s dead. There was no soul present at the time of her “death” and if there was, Ragnarok would’ve eaten it and adopt Medusa’s Vector Arrow snake magic. Crona’s new power looks more like thorns than arrows…

Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler chapter 74 Raws [click here]

Well this one I’ve been waiting all month for and actually came out today… I was looking up Soul Eater raws and thought I might as well look up some Black Butler raws too.

Might I say the Gangan Fantasy magazine cover is looking quite fabulous this month? The page provided looks like a ceremony of some sort. I am pretty sure they were supposed to have a fire evacuation due to last chapter’s events.

Silver Spoon chapter 55 : Autumn 24 [read here]

Recap of what happened. Main character Hachiken Yugo has overworked himself that he ends up in the hospital on the morning of the school festival. The weirdest part is that over the 2 days he’s there, none of his friends visit, not even his brother! We know now that Shingo is right about himself being too selfish. He high tails out when he sees his father there.

As for Yugo’s father, he has been viewed as an antagonist by Yugo, but after the previous chapter, I can’t really go against him. His father believes in hard work in education and would much rather Yugo not waste his time in things that aren’t related to education. I don’t really see the bad in that since I grew up with a mother who believes the same thing. Yugo is compelled to prove himself that he can do things his own way, but at the end of the day, his father isn’t wrong.

This is where I talk about this chapter:

In this chapter, Yugo is reluctant to go back to school and very rejecting of his parents’ presence at the same time. He even considered throwing away the money his mother gives him.

Everything else is just comical relief. Thus, we have the master of comic relief:

Why hello Major Armstrong look-alike! I haven’t seen you since… chapter 1? o__O

Omygaw, this Silver Spoon is really making run up a wall. Good chapter nonetheless. Can’t wait until Kuroshitsuji gets translated so I can read it.
